INTEGRATIVE HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that utilises hypnosis to help individuals achieve a heightened state of focused awareness and concentration. In this state, individuals are more receptive to suggestions, which can support positive changes in behaviour, emotions, and attitudes.

I use a variety of methods in hypnosis, though the general structure of a hypnotherapy session typically begins with a discussion about your concerns and the goals you wish to achieve. I then guide you into a deeply relaxed, almost dream-like state, where you can connect with your subconscious mind and address the issue at hand. We pay attention to the insights your subconscious provides, while I also offer hypnotic suggestions to help you work towards your desired outcome. Finally, I gently bring you out of the trance, and we discuss the process.

Hypnotherapy can be effective for a wide range of issues, including pain management, stress reduction, processing traumatic experiences, weight loss, future planning, changing harmful habits and improving sleep. It works by accessing the subconscious mind to promote healing and change, helping individuals achieve their goals and improve their well-being.

Key elements of hypnotherapy include:

  • Induction: The process of guiding a person into a hypnotic state, typically involving relaxation techniques and focused attention.

  • Suggestion: The use of positive affirmations and guided imagery to address specific issues, such as stress, anxiety, phobias, or habits like smoking.

  • Deepening: Techniques to enhance the hypnotic state, making the individual more receptive to therapeutic suggestions.

  • Post-hypnotic suggestions: Instructions given during hypnosis that are intended to be carried out after the session has ended.

As an example see some of the methodologies that are often incorporated into our sessions, providing a highly integrative approach with a range of resources to draw upon:

  • Light to Deep Hypnosis: There are various levels and depths of hypnosis and trance. In fact, you often experience these states naturally, for example, when you’re absorbed in a creative task or during exercise. In therapy, we utilise these different levels, ranging from very light hypnosis, where you might not even close your eyes, to deeper states, where you’re gradually guided into a dream-like trance.

  • Regression: Many of our present-day issues stem from past experiences. Regression therapy can help explore these earlier traumas, losses, and challenges, offering a space for healing. As a result, once these past wounds are lovingly addressed, your current life can improve.

  • Guided Affective Imagery (or Katathym-Imaginative Psychotherapy/KIP): In a deeply relaxed state, I will guide you in generating mental images using all your senses. These can be familiar images or ones created by your imagination, allowing emotional difficulties to be explored in a symbolic way. This technique is used to help achieve goals (such as weight loss or quitting smoking), manage pain, and support healing.

  • NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming): is a psychological approach that explores the connection between neurological processes, language, and behavioural patterns learned through experience. It aims to help individuals change unhelpful behaviours, beliefs, and thought patterns by understanding how they process information and communicate.

  • Parts Work (also known as Ego State Therapy): Parts Work, or Ego State Therapy, is a therapeutic approach based on the idea that the mind is made up of different “parts” or “ego states,” each with its own feelings, memories, and beliefs. These parts can sometimes be in conflict, leading to inner tension or emotional distress. In therapy, clients are guided to connect with and understand these different parts, working towards resolving internal conflicts, healing trauma, and promoting self-integration. The goal is to foster harmony among the parts, allowing the individual to feel more whole and balanced in their emotional and mental well-being.
